WHAT WE BELIEVE

Our purpose, according to the by-laws is: “We are called together to be the people of God because we have received the free gift of God’s love. Our purpose is to give visible expression of God’s involvement in the world. We have come together through the work of the Holy Spirit and are united in our loyalty to Jesus as our Redeemer and Lord.”

Our Pastor, Rev. Debra Lee

I am a bi-vocational pastor entering my tenth year of Church Ministry. A graduate with a Masters in Divinity from Andover Newton Theological Seminary and a Masters in Public Administration from Bridgewater State University. Married with two adult daughters and three spunky Golden-Doodles, we reside in the City of New Bedford. Pastoral Ministry has always been where I believe that God has called and continues to call me. I find it important that through my ministry, people’s faith is enhanced by the history and events within God’s Word, but even more so by how to apply that Word to our daily lives. I see our journey of faith as a path that we share one with another as we learn together the call and mission that God has for each one of us.

THE PASTOR’S VISION

The Word of God is central to our life as American Baptists. We believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God and the authority for the governance of our lives. The Word of God is a wonderful guide to help us to live the life that God intended for each of us and that discerning that word for each of our lives is the path of discipleship and the journey we travel together following God’s lead. We believe that Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior and that our belief and our relationship is a result of that belief that Jesus Christ assures salvation and eternal fellowship with a loving and just God. The ministry of our Church places a great deal of focus on our own personal relationship with Jesus Christ and each other. Ephesians 4:1-6 NIV “1 As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. 2 Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. 3 Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. 4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism; 6 one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.” He continues to be a very real presence in our lives today.

We believe that we all have God given gifts to share in order to spread the Gospel here and throughout the world. Matthew 28:16-20 NKJV “16 Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, to the mountain which Jesus had appointed for them. 17 When they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but some doubted. 18 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.”

We believe that Jesus was crucified, died, buried, and resurrected. Furthermore, that God will keep His promise of the forgiveness of sins, 1 John 1:9 NKJV “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” and the promise of life everlasting. John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” We also believe Jesus will keep His promise to return and complete His calling as Messiah. John 14:1-3NKJV “1 Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. 2 In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.”
